Poorly performing nursing homes are listed at www.medicare.gov (click on Compare nursing homes in your area). The centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services lists 50 facilities that continually fail to meet safety and quality-of-care standards. Check this list before placing a loved one in a nursing home. If a loved one is in one of these homes consider moving them.
Inflation hits seniors hardest! Prices of products and services on which seniors depend have been going up more quickly than the overall inflation rate. Since March 2007, medical services have gone up by 4.8% and hospital services by 7.9%. Also supermarket food has gone up by 4.7% and home energy by 6.8%.
To get to see your doctor quickly, call the office as soon as it opens to try to get the appointment of someone who canceled. People often leave cancellation messages late at night or very early in the morning.
Social Security Disability Benefits run only until full retirement age, at which time full Social Security benefits begin.
Search for discount codes on-line before making any purchase on the Web. Up to three-quarters of on-line retailers provide discount codes at least some of the time and several free Web sites make them available.
