Retirees' Committee Report
4/10/2008
Brothers - Due to the economy and lack of sales there have been 5 sero's offered for May 1, 08. It is my understanding that Gary Mudd, Gary Yeast, Doug Hampton, and Ron Sanders have accepted the seros. I do not know what will happen with the 5th sero if it is not used. If someone else goes I will let you know. - Ed Retirees' Committee Report 10 APR 08 Think you are ready to fight city hall? Here are some pointers. Do your homework... Call to find out whom you should contact. Gather data concerning your problem such as counting how many cars are running the stop sign in your neighborhood within a given period of time. If an official asks for additional information, provide it promptly. Don't just complain, offer recommendations or possible solutions. Stay polite to gatekeepers. They are the people who control access to decision makers. They determine if your request goes to the top of the pile or the trash can. Give politicians wiggle room so you don't present an all-or-nothing demand. They may have regulations to follow or many constituencies to please. Get the backing of other people to write letters or show up at a hearing in support of your issue. Give a specific date on which you will call if you haven't heard from the official - and do it! Long-term-care insurance should include a long exclusion period. To reduce the cost of coverage, select a policy with a 90-day to six month "exclusion period". If you ever need care you would have to pay out of pocket for this period the benefits begin. Your premiums would be as much 1/3rd lower than with a 30-day exclusion period. Get inflation protection linked to increases in the actual cost of living. Your policy should pay for home care, assisted living care or nursing home care. A good policy will offer benefits when you can't perform 2 or 3 daily living tasks, while a poor one might require 4 or 5. People who suddenly stop working are as happy as those who retire gradually! Go to www.naturalhandyman.com to find info on how to silence squeaky floors, replace broken tile, repair shower doors, replace faucets, get rid of carpenter ants, mice and other pests, etc. Respectfully submitted, Brad Cecil, Chairman
