Most working people look forward to the time when they can retire and do all the special things they never found time for during their career. But when they actually retire they sometimes are surprised by how bored and unfulfilled their leisurely retirement leaves them. You enjoyed leisure activities while you were working because there relaxing nature served as a counterbalance to the stresses of the workplace. Now that you aren't working, they don't serve this purpose. Avoid making large financial commitments to any leisure activity until you make completely sure that you won't loose interest when you spend long periods of time involved in it. First rent expensive items such as vacation homes, boats, or RV's for several extended periods of time before purchasing them. Two weeks is not long enough to make that decision. Become engaged in activities rather than just watching things happen. The difference between pleasure and engagement is the difference between attending a sporting event and joining a team. Invest in activities where you get more back than you contribute. To find the most rewarding challenges for your retirement, think back on what activities made time seem to fly by. To help identify strengths and skills that you didn't even know you had go to www.viastrengths.org. Serving causes greater than ourselves such as local community groups, neighbors, churches or charities allows us to find meaning in our lives. Experiment, because it may take years to discover the cause that is right for you, so don't get discouraged.

Aging causes elderly people to just say what they mean. As we age, the frontal cortex - the part of the brain that sensors thoughts - begins to shrink. The decline is not inevitable. Aerobic exercise enhances functioning among older adults.
