RETIREES' COMMITTEE REPORT5/10/2007 Cell phone contracts can be ended early when fees rise. When your provider alters service in a materially adverse way, you can end your contract without paying the early termination fee. This escape period typically lasts 14 to 60 days after the notification of the plan change. Read all contract changes when they arrive. Be ready to explain why the change in service affects you adversely.
Be aware of credit card traps. Don't pay your first late fee. Virtually all credit card issuers will waive the first late fee on an account if the cardholder calls and asks them to do so. Keep old rarely used credit card accounts. The companies that compute credit ratings consider long-term accounts a factor in your favor. Canceling old cards can lower your credit score, which makes it harder and more costly to obtain loans in the future. Beware of rewards programs. Unfortunately, the rewards programs that look the most appealing on paper often come with the most traps, as well as steep annual membership fees. Don't exceed your credit limit. You can face lofty fees for going even $1 over your limit. It can also hurt your credit score. Ask your card issuer to raise your limit, don't spend anywhere near your limit in case you loose track, or switch to another card that grants you higher limits. Don't trigger "universal default". If you are late with a payment to any lender, all of your credit cards might try to jack up your interest rate, even if your payments to most of these cards have been on time. This universal default rate increase is hidden in the fine print of many credit card agreements.
Happiness increases with age. People are most content between ages of 60 and 86. This is a time when most are focusing less on achievements and more on enjoying life and relationships.

Airline discounts for seniors are more difficult to find, but Southwest has special fares between selected cities and allows a full refund if a senior traveler's plans change.
